this afternoon i am happy to bring you some especially lovely, well preserved and interesting hand-colored postcards of london from the “celesque” series, published by the photochrom co. i got these three from a set of two massive vintage postcard-filled books i got from my grandfather. there are hundreds of postcards and the like in the books and i am excited to share them here.

i don’t know where his photo was taken but when i found it, it was in some sort of cardboard keepsake package. it was printed in 1979, hence the cool 70s fashion on the people walking through the picture. perhaps someone out there on the internet will help me locate it… but for now it’s just mysterious and pretty. i purchased this one for 25 cents as well.

for all you nature lovers out there, here is a hot-colored 1970s era shot looking south at “tourist attractive” highway 1. this was distributed in monterey, printed in berkeley, and taken by someone by the name of john h. atkinson jr. who apparently shared my fascination with the coast in big sur. this was also steeply priced at 25 cents.

hi, i’m allie. this is my (new) blog. so far the plan is to post vintage postcards and other interesting pieces of ephemera… just in case the internet survives longer than humankind! consider this an e-time capsule. i plan to update this fairly regularly, but planning isn’t always my strongest suit. anyway, enjoy.

this first one is a very old postcard from paris, printed on very cool bumpy ragged edged perle de luxe paper, featuring a beautiful illumination of notre dame from the left bank, one of my least favorite tourist packed churches and most favorite nighttime vin-rouge makeout spots in paris.

i found this gem this for 25 cents in glamorous el cerrito, california.
